Resurrection at Sorrow Hill, Asylum for the Greats” is a mas(querade) created by Alan Vaughan for his MokoSomōkōw Carnival Band in Trinidad. Moko Somōkōwcombines elements of Afro-Atlantic spirituality, such as Orisha and Vodun, with creative portrayals inspired by visual arts and literature. “Resurrection at Sorrow Hill” is based on the rich, complex and beautiful novel of the same name by Guyanese author Wilson Harris, and the images portray theinhabitants of a former gaol and mental-asylum in Guyana who have alter-egos derived from the trauma of conquest and colonialism.
